This sample, like the other two, addresses a single reading. Consider mixing such single-assignment responses with ones that tie together two readings or a reading and a film, etc.–assignments might agree with each other, might present opposing views, or might discuss related topics. Through such diversity, students will better confront the assigned material and will be able to do more than summarize; they will be able to tackle, to explain and analyze.
